It is controversial whether it was known to the Vikings - although it is also called the "Viking Compass"), but it should not be missing from the Warrior collection , because every warrior army also needs strong magicians among them, right?
The symbol was probably created under the influence of Western (Mediterranean) magic traditions. This influence can also be seen in other Icelandic magic signs. A neo-pagan interpretation of the symbol is as follows: Eight directions are represented in a star shape around a center. Together with the center, the eight rays are said to represent the nine worlds of Norse mythology:
- Overworld: Wanenheim , Asgard , Albenheim
- Earth: Jötunheim , Midgard , Muspellsheim
- Underworld: Schwarzalbenheim , Helheim , Niflheim
This modern interpretation is based on an analogy to the well-known world tree Yggdrasil .
